Claude can now read your bank and card accounts through Plaid and answer questions about your spending, in a US beta for Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers.

Anthropic announced Personal Finance in Claude on Thursday. It "starts rolling out in beta this week, on the Pro, Max, and Ultra plans in the US" (Anthropic, Claude on X). You connect an account by signing in to your bank yourself through Plaid, "so Claude doesn't ask for or see your bank password," and "Access is read-only, and Personal Finance can’t move, manage, or invest your money." You can ask things like "Where did my money go this month?" and Claude adds up spending by category, points out "charges that hit twice, unexpected fees, or a bill that’s crept up all year," and can build a spending chart, a calendar of what's due or a dashboard. For each account you connect, Claude sees the bank's name, the account's name, type and last four digits, balances and credit limits, and "up to two years of transactions." Chats inside the Personal Finance hub "aren't used to train our models," but "For anything you share with Claude outside the hub, your privacy settings apply." Anthropic says the feature "isn't designed to give investment advice" and that Claude "can make mistakes in its answers," so you should check important figures with your bank. OpenAI added a similar Plaid-based feature to ChatGPT in May (The Verge).

What to weigh: if you try it, ask your money questions inside the Personal Finance hub rather than in a regular chat, so they stay out of training. Start with one account, and before you act on a number, ask Claude which transactions are behind it. You can unlink an account at any time.
