**Moonshot has released the open weights for Kimi K3.1 Pro on schedule, under a license that's mostly permissive but has conditions for big commercial users.**

"Releasing the model weights of Kimi K3.1 Pro," Moonshot AI posted on Wednesday at 8 AM PT, keeping the "by Nov 4" promise it made at launch on Oct 23 ([Kimi on X](https://x.com/Kimi_Moonshot/status/2118010528123773297), [our launch post](https://news.littlewolflabs.com/posts/2026-10-23-kimi-k3-1-pro)). The model card on Hugging Face calls it "an open-weight, natively multimodal agentic model," with 2.8 trillion parameters in total and 104 billion active at a time, a context window of 1,048,576 tokens, and MXFP4 weights, a compressed 4-bit number format that Moonshot trained the model to use ([Hugging Face](https://huggingface.co/moonshotai/Kimi-K3.1-Pro)). Even compressed, it's huge. The repository has 112 files totaling about 1.56 TB, according to Hugging Face's file listing. Moonshot recommends serving it with vLLM, SGLang or TokenSpeed. The license is a custom one named kimi-k3.1-pro ([license](https://huggingface.co/moonshotai/Kimi-K3.1-Pro/blob/main/LICENSE)). Most people can use and modify it freely, but there are two conditions. If you run a Model as a Service business, meaning you sell access to models, and your "aggregate revenue of the Licensee and its affiliates exceeds 20 million US dollars" over any 12 months, you "must enter into a separate agreement with Moonshot AI before using the Software or its derivative works for any commercial purpose." And products with "more than 100 million monthly active users," or more than $20 million in monthly revenue, must show "Kimi K3.1-Pro" "prominently" in their interface. Neither condition applies to "internal use of the Software" or to use through Moonshot's own products or "certified inference partners."

*What to weigh:* this isn't something you'll run on a gaming PC. At about 1.56 TB of weights, it needs a multi-GPU server. For most people, the release matters because other hosts can now serve it and you can keep your data in-house. If you build a product on it, read the revenue and user thresholds before you ship.
