SpaceXSI has officially announced that Grok Bot can now make phone calls for you, though early reports say it only works in the US, and not in Washington or Illinois.
"Grok Bot can now make phone calls," the official @bot account posted on Wednesday morning, with a demo of the bot calling to cancel an internet plan (Grok Bot on X). In the video, you watch a live transcript of the call and can tap "Take over" or "End call" at any point. When we compared AI calling assistants on Oct 26, Grok Bot's calling had been announced in a single post from Elon Musk and wasn't in any docs (our comparison). There is still no entry for it in the Grok Bot changelog, but the Grok Bot Terms, updated Oct 31, now have rules for calls. "Calls identify themselves as made by a virtual assistant on Customer’s behalf and may be recorded." You "may only call people who have agreed to hear from it" and "may not use Calls for marketing or mass calls." And "Calls are not a telephone service and cannot be used to reach emergency services." On Tuesday, creator Peter Yang said "all Grok Bot users should now be able to call US businesses," and in his demo the bot got a Comcast bill "dropped from $84 to $45 per month," pausing "to get Yang’s approval before accepting the final terms" (Teslarati). Where it works isn't on an official page yet. A Techloy reviewer says the bot told him calling "only works for people in the United States (except Washington and Illinois) calling US numbers" (Techloy), and TestingCatalog reported the same limit today (TestingCatalog on X). Teslarati also notes that "SpaceXSI has not said how calls count against the weekly pool." Disclosure: Littlewolf Labs News uses Grok Bot to help run this site. We haven't tested calling ourselves.
What to weigh: if you're in the US outside Washington and Illinois, a bill or cancellation call is a fair first test. Stay on the transcript and use "Take over" if it heads somewhere you didn't agree to. Until SpaceXSI says how calls count against the weekly limit, keep the first few short.
