# What people are saying about Grok Bot's tighter usage limits

> We read 185 posts on X from October 31 to November 2. Most complain that the weekly pool drained in a day or two. Elon Musk says serving Grok Bot cost too much, xAI has published no new numbers, and some users still say it's worth it.

**This is a sample, not a survey.** Between October 31 and the morning of November 2, 2026, we read 185 posts on X, from 118 accounts, about Grok Bot's usage limits, across several keyword and account searches. For scale, X counted about 6,900 posts that week matching "Grok Bot" plus a usage-limit word, and more than half of them came on November 1 and 2. Many of the posts we read were reposts, automated replies, promotion, or jokes, and we set those aside. That left 39 posts, from 38 accounts, by people describing their own use, which we quote below word for word, typos included, with the date in Pacific Time. We also quote three posts from Elon Musk as vendor statements, and two automated replies from the @grok account, which are not official statements. We did not verify anyone's claims or see anyone's usage meter, and people who are angry about a limit are more likely to post about it than people who aren't. A theme below needs at least two independent accounts. Single reports are labeled as single reports.

Littlewolf Labs News uses Grok Bot to help run this site. We hold Grok Bot to the same standard here as the others.

## What xAI is selling, in brief

Grok Bot is xAI's agent app, sold as part of the [X Subscription](https://x.ai/pricing), which we covered when it [launched in October](/posts/2026-10-14-x-subscription-grok-and-cursor). Here is what xAI's pricing page said on November 2, 2026, in US dollars. A free tier also exists, without Grok Bot.

| Tier | Price | Usage, per xAI | Grok Bot? |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Plus | $8 a month | Base | No |
| Premium | $30 a month | 4x Plus | Yes |
| Super | $100 a month | 15x Plus | Yes |
| Ultra | $200 a month | 50x Plus | Yes |

The [pricing page](https://x.ai/pricing) says "Every tier includes a pool of AI usage shared across Grok and Cursor," covering Chat, Imagine, Voice and Bot, and that "usage costs vary by product." The pool "refreshes weekly, so one heavy day never wipes out your whole month." xAI's [docs](https://docs.x.ai/x-subscription/pricing) add that Bot usage "draws from that seat's shared weekly usage pool, not a separate additive pool." When the pool runs out, you can buy top-ups or wait for the refresh. The [spending-caps page](https://docs.x.ai/x-subscription/spending-caps) lets you set a monthly limit on that extra spending, and Auto Top-up is off unless you turn it on.

What xAI does not publish is the size of the pool in any unit, or how much a given task costs. So no one outside xAI can say exactly how much the limits changed, if they did. As of the afternoon of November 2, we found no pricing-page, docs or [changelog](https://x.ai/changelog/bot) entry about a change. The latest changelog entry we could read was dated October 27.

## Theme 1: The weekly pool ran out in a day or two

This was by far the most common report. More than half of the 38 accounts we kept say their usage ran out much faster than before, most of them over the weekend of October 31 to November 1.

@mawenye18 [wrote on November 1](https://x.com/mawenye18/status/2116954954309189759): "I feel like my Grok Bot usage quota is being used up abnormally - it ran out of its weekly limit way faster than usual." @atikbytes, on a Cursor plan, [wrote that evening](https://x.com/atikbytes/status/2117093777152319780): "Previously, the usage was totally fine, but lately it feels like Grok Bot is eating through the weekly usage limit at an alarming rate." @NFT2ME, an AI news account, [put it this way](https://x.com/NFT2ME/status/2117016683764441296): "You spend more time watching your quota disappear than actually using the AI."

Some posts give numbers. @ItsMeTrueG [wrote on November 1](https://x.com/ItsMeTrueG/status/2117026120495481214): "Pro plan, used to get 5-6 days of all-day use. Now one hard day eats 40%." @greyfedora0 [said](https://x.com/greyfedora0/status/2117071591687561642) the weekly limit reset at 12:31 PM and "By 5:24, 23.4% of the week was gone." @yulonglol [wrote](https://x.com/yulonglol/status/2116960889610133913): "Used a bit over a day I was at 46% and yesterday evening I checked again I was at 98%." @aaditya_roy_04 [posted](https://x.com/aaditya_roy_04/status/2116836279803629574) that the console "shows 48.7% of the weekly limit used, up from ~24% overnight," and said he had asked support for a timestamped breakdown. @kev_AI_ [woke up on November 1](https://x.com/kev_AI_/status/2116862498812936650) to "grok bot, cursor model usage at 100%. Worse yet, my $1,000 extra usage limit got fully spent."

The complaints are not only from heavy agent users. @gary_schroeder [wrote on November 2](https://x.com/gary_schroeder/status/2117296069180854621) that he "can't even do 3 days of basic things (asking Grok basic questions, having Grok Bot update my calendar) before I run out of Premium usage." @niuniu_dev, trying Grok Bot for a month, [said](https://x.com/niuniu_dev/status/2116880893755212103): "One video generation burned through 30% of my weekly quota." @Smlay_ero [compared two weeks](https://x.com/Smlay_ero/status/2117066522975944952): "After we switched to the unified plan last week, I could code in Cursor and still run topic tracking in Grok Bot for days. This time I haven't even used Cursor for coding, just the usual Grok Bot stuff, and the quota is burning through crazy fast." @muddycreek_ [said](https://x.com/muddycreek_/status/2117208604172333523) a standalone account ran out and the bots "stopped completely," then on the $100 Super plan: "Tonight I'm already at 25% usage with four days left until the weekly reset." @longernickname [wrote](https://x.com/longernickname/status/2116899887446995037) the limit "unexpectedly hit 100% overnight, without me intending to use that much."

People's guesses at the size of the cut don't agree. @imerttoprak [wrote](https://x.com/imerttoprak/status/2117024762945757575) that "Grok Bot limits may have been silently reduced by ~37%," based on his own usage logs, which showed "1.264 BILLION tokens consumed" in the previous 7-day cycle. @retailrefugee [estimated](https://x.com/retailrefugee/status/2117087168246042838) "Usage caps have clearly been lowered by 20-30% for Grok Bot." @Aevoa_ [wrote](https://x.com/Aevoa_/status/2117094872041554382) that "apparently the grok bot quota just got halfed last night, based on user reports," and @BrianH1988 [replied to a similar claim](https://x.com/BrianH1988/status/2117305028813660496): "No, you're not imagining things, nor is it strictly '50%'." These are estimates from individual accounts. xAI has not given a figure.

**The counterpoint.** Six accounts say their usage has been normal. @daisinet [wrote on November 2](https://x.com/daisinet/status/2117306253168750701): "I have a SuperGrok Heavy subscription and around 20 bots running coding, digital media, and lead capture almost all day, every day. I didn't see any remotely alarming issues with Grok @bot usage this week." That is a legacy plan, and the poster wonders whether "this only affected other, smaller subs." @AgentTekk [wrote](https://x.com/AgentTekk/status/2117131525871616433): "My usage has been fine. I'm in the unified Ultra plan." @MrJonesBigStar [replied](https://x.com/MrJonesBigStar/status/2116933776123072537) "No issues with mine," and @ChuongPhanVinh [wrote](https://x.com/ChuongPhanVinh/status/2117229850494918970): "Mine's been fine so far." @retailrefugee, quoted above, said he "had no issues" himself despite the lower caps. And on October 31, before most of the complaints, @AntoniEriksson [wrote](https://x.com/AntoniEriksson/status/2116629214250356893) that the unified plan "is giving me way more usage than the legacy SuperGrok, because I mostly use Grok Bot."

## Theme 2: Musk's explanation, and no announcement

The only explanation from xAI's side has come from Elon Musk, in replies. On November 1, a user asked whether there was any chance of a Grok Bot reset because usage had run out fast that week. Musk [replied at 12:34 PM PT](https://x.com/elonmusk/status/2116992258520064397): "The cost of serving Grok Bot was unsustainably high relative to revenue." An hour later, replying to a user who said they had hit the limit and had to wait until Wednesday, he [asked](https://x.com/elonmusk/status/2117008189195800814): "Upgrade to higher usage plan cost increase is too high?" That afternoon he [posted](https://x.com/elonmusk/status/2117033967782113327): "Try Grok @Bot! You will love it. We land a few dozen fixes, features and sometimes powers to Bot 7 days a week and we look at your feedback to make Bot as perfect as possible." These are vendor statements. None of them says what changed or by how much.

Several posters read that first reply as confirmation that the limits were cut. Others point out that it isn't an announcement. @DanielZambrini [wrote on November 2](https://x.com/DanielZambrini/status/2117303820145299715): "Grok Bot is the only one cutting usage this week, and it didn't even post about it." @VinodIyengar, who said he had just paid for a year, [called it](https://x.com/VinodIyengar/status/2117306456085274967) "Shrinkflation for your AI subscription," adding: "Reminder that 2X or 4X of usage means nothing when the X is fungible." That last point matches the pricing page, which sells tiers as multiples of Plus but does not say what Plus buys.

The timing stood out to people because rivals moved the other way. @Layton_Gott [listed it](https://x.com/Layton_Gott/status/2117081062572495254) as "Oct 29: OpenAI doubled usage on every Pro tier," then "Oct 30: Anthropic removed the 5-hour limit for Ultra," then "Nov 1: Grok Bot usage limits suddenly jumping to 100%." The first two are real changes we covered: OpenAI [doubled the Work and Codex allowance on its Pro tiers](/posts/2026-10-29-chatgpt-pro-limits-doubled), which is narrower than "usage on every Pro tier," and Anthropic [dropped the five-hour cap for verified Ultra accounts](/posts/2026-10-30-claude-max-ultra-rename).

On why it costs so much, @vibe_cooker [offered a theory](https://x.com/vibe_cooker/status/2117066230356119797): "I dug into what it actually costs to serve, and hint: it's Opus." That is the poster's view. xAI's [Grok Bot FAQ](https://docs.x.ai/grok-bot/faq) does say the app picks "the backend model most likely" to do a task well, which "can be a first-party SpaceXSI model or a third-party model," and that "Routing a task to Opus 5.5 doesn't change what it costs you per token." It also says Grok Bot doesn't show which model handled a request, so how often that happens isn't public.

## Theme 3: Meters that jumped, and a glitch nobody official has confirmed

A second set of reports is less about the size of the pool and more about the meter. @SamE1311025 [wrote on November 2](https://x.com/SamE1311025/status/2117304676836053220): "Grok @bot had outages from Oct 31 until this morning. My weekly usage jumped from about 40% to over 90% while bots spun their wheels. No official post, no ETA, no word on usage credits." @BrianH1988 [said](https://x.com/BrianH1988/status/2117305028813660496) "My meter read 71% usage before I went to bed," and wondered whether the change was "not a reset, but an INC" (the API returned the post cut off there).

On X, the @grok account, which posts automated AI replies and not official statements, told several users that a "Temporary Billing/Usage Dashboard glitch showed false 100%" and was "resolved" after about five hours, [in one reply](https://x.com/grok/status/2117113795025772579), and that this was separate from the pool being "tightened mid-cycle." In [another reply](https://x.com/grok/status/2117103878306939306) it said "Regular Grok chat uses a separate allowance," which contradicts xAI's own docs, quoted above, that the pool is shared. We could not load xAI's status page to check the glitch claim, so treat it as unconfirmed.

One single report describes a way out that we could not confirm. @Alex_Michalas [wrote](https://x.com/Alex_Michalas/status/2117108654880985385) that he was on legacy Cursor Ultra at $200 a month, with "30 Grok Bot agents" at 100%: "Switched to the unified plan (~same cost), got a prorated refund on the old one, and the counter reset to 0%." xAI's [Grok Bot docs](https://docs.x.ai/x-subscription/grok-bot) do say switching cancels old plans with a prorated refund, and that the switch to the unified plan is permanent. They don't say what happens to your meter.

## Theme 4: Still worth it for some, cancelled by others

The people who are leaving say so plainly. @BrSanch [replied to Musk on November 1](https://x.com/BrSanch/status/2117045371059003552): "Then Grok Bot isn't worth it. Just canceled my Ultra." @klieber [wrote that night](https://x.com/klieber/status/2117135851671195779): "I'm done with grok bot for now. Not worth it given the new limits." @gary_schroeder, quoted above, ended: "Probably heading back to OpenAI." @SamE1311025 wrote: "I still love using Grok Bot, but my trust is very low now, and like many I'm looking at other products."

Annual subscribers sound the most stuck. @red_chem_lite [wrote](https://x.com/red_chem_lite/status/2117101419471761457) that he switched to the X Subscription, "paid a year in advance, spent the past month moving all my business routines over to grok bot and have been non-stop selling grokbot to my family and business associates." In [an earlier reply](https://x.com/red_chem_lite/status/2116986673565217161), he said: "Now I rarely use grok because I don't want to burn bot usage." @muddycreek_ asked Musk for a different model: "please give us a monthly usage allocation instead of this weekly management that forces constant interruptions."

**The counterpoint.** Even many complainers praise the product. @ItsMeTrueG called it "Still the best agent I run, which is why it stings." @Aevoa_ called it "genuinely the most useful AI Tool I've tried recently in terms of time saved," with "decent usage and no 5h limit" on the €30 plan, before the cut he described. @MoralGuideline [replied to Musk](https://x.com/MoralGuideline/status/2117057378830946741): "Grok bot is still worth it." @Texas_Twins_Dad, whose bio carries a referral link, [wrote](https://x.com/Texas_Twins_Dad/status/2117047036847460829): "My Grok Bot does all three. Absolutely worth it for me." And some want to pay more, not less. @stevenmarkryan, who said he is on a $300 legacy plan and "(happily) pay on-demand" when he runs out, [asked for](https://x.com/stevenmarkryan/status/2117039894761726301) "Giga: $500/month" and "Giga PLUS: $1,000/month" tiers that "should provide disproportionately higher Grok Bot usage."

## Theme 5: What people are doing about it

The practical posts fall into a few groups.

- **Find what is eating the pool.** @ShevY_xx [wrote on November 2](https://x.com/ShevY_xx/status/2117305322620563541) that he cut his usage "by 48%. Had to remove several automations," using a "Usage Review" skill: "Just ask Grok Bot: 'Check my usage. What's using the most, and how could my bots and routines use less?'" @Ariex_00 [described](https://x.com/Ariex_00/status/2117304684340019395) finding "65 bot runs in my log yesterday. 18 different bots," and warned that duplicate routines mean the "same weekly pool, burned twice." The suggested fix is a read-only audit of every routine and its schedule.
- **Turn things off.** @Smlay_ero said: "I've already shut down some of the less important bots." @red_chem_lite stopped using Grok chat to save bot usage.
- **Know the warnings.** @ChuongPhanVinh [noted](https://x.com/ChuongPhanVinh/status/2117229850494918970) that "Grok Bot and Grok Imagine share the same weekly limit, and the Imagine warning pops up at 25, 50 and 75 percent. Only 100 percent actually stops work."
- **Cap your top-ups.** @kev_AI_'s $1,000 of extra usage is the cautionary tale here. @longernickname [asked](https://x.com/longernickname/status/2116899887446995037) for "a feature that lets users set a usage cap, for example 85%." xAI's [spending caps](https://docs.x.ai/x-subscription/spending-caps) cover extra spending beyond the pool, not the pool itself, and its docs say alerts alone don't stop usage.
- **Use other models.** @nothingto12, who said "I don't want to pay any more than $30," [wrote](https://x.com/nothingto12/status/2116933696078885278): "I just connect it to my codex/claude sub with my agents." @roughneckactual [said on October 31](https://x.com/roughneckactual/status/2116591030589939846), before the weekend: "Ultra alone ran out in 2.5 days for me," and described a rule of switching his Grok Bot from Claude to Codex at 90% of his Claude limit.

## What we left out

- Automated replies from the @bot account and most @grok replies. We quote two @grok replies above only to flag what they claimed.
- Promotion and referral posts, including posts promising "unlimited usage" elsewhere.
- Satire and jokes, and reposts of news headlines.
- The two user posts Musk replied to. We describe them rather than quote them because we could not retrieve their full text.
- Parts of quoted posts that were links, hashtags, threads, or calls to follow.

## What to weigh

- **No one outside xAI knows the new size of the pool.** xAI sells tiers as multiples of Plus and has not published what Plus buys, before or after. The 20%, 37% and 50% figures above are users' estimates.
- **Glitch or cut, or both.** Some of the weekend's 100% readings may have been a meter problem, but the only source for that is an automated reply. Musk's comment about cost suggests the limits did tighten, though xAI hasn't said by how much.
- **What you use matters.** Video generation and many always-on routines draw heavily from the same weekly pool as chat. Several people who mainly chat or run a few bots report no trouble.
- **Extra spending is opt-in, but set a cap.** Top-ups can keep bots running, but set a monthly spending limit first.
- **Watch for an official word.** If xAI publishes numbers or a changelog entry, it will settle questions this roundup can't.
