DeepSeek is now promoting Creator mode in its open-source DeepSeek Harness agent, which lets you build your own plugins by describing them in chat.

DeepSeek put Creator mode front and center on Monday (DeepSeek Harness on X). DeepSeek Harness is its open-source agent app, which runs in your browser on your own computer. The launch post says Creator mode lets you "turn ideas into plugins that you can use, from a design workspace to a sandbox game or a 3D LLM visualizer." DeepSeek's product page says you can "install plugins, or create them through chat in 'Creator mode', to extend tools, skills, and the interface" (DeepSeek Harness page). The docs add that plugins you set up belong to your current profile and stay in place after a restart (Harness docs). Bloomberg reports that DeepSeek showed off examples like 3D model generation and a video-editing workbench built from plain-English prompts. Quartz notes it's mostly aimed at developers for now. Creator mode isn't brand-new code. It has been in the project's public code since late September, and Monday is the push to get people using it. The project is MIT-licensed and still a "developer preview." The README warns "THERE WILL BE COMPATIBILITY-BREAKING CHANGES" (GitHub). Its safety notice says it "has not undergone a security audit." It also says untrusted plugins or bad model output "may damage the host computer, modify or delete files, disclose data or credentials" (SAFETY.md).

Try it: if you have Node.js, npx @deepseek-ai/dsh web starts it in your browser. Follow DeepSeek's own advice and run it in a spare virtual machine or container, keep backups, and read any plugin before you let it run. Treat it as a playground for now. Plugins you build today may break with the next update.
