Anthropic is now working on new medicines with six drug developers, and it bought a one-person biotech whose founder used Claude to run experiments across 11 outside labs.

Anthropic shared early results on Tuesday from months of drug development work with six organizations: BigHat Biosciences, Bristol Myers Squibb, Divergence Labs, Enveda, Generate Biomedicines and The Column Group (Anthropic on X, Anthropic).

The numbers are Anthropic's and its partners' own (vendor claims). Divergence Labs says Claude produced about 35,000 antibody designs for food allergies in roughly a month, largely on its own. At Enveda, Claude reviewed a 1,061-page regulatory filing, caught all 11 problems people had found plus 7 they'd missed, and cut review time by 89%. Anthropic also disclosed that it bought Mithril Medicine, a company with one full-time employee, founder Cody Tranbarger, who used Claude to coordinate contracts, logistics and experiments with 11 outside labs.

Anthropic says Mithril took a possible treatment for a rare form of muscular dystrophy from an idea to promising results in mice in under 18 months, and that human trials could start "as soon as late 2028." R&D World reports the deal closed in July and notes the mouse study was small and not randomized, with the report itself calling for a blinded repeat (R&D World).

What to watch: Anthropic says the work is "mostly preclinical," meaning the drugs aren't being tested in people yet, so none of this is a new medicine today. The real tests are whether Mithril's candidate reaches human trials in 2028 as hoped, and whether Bristol Myers Squibb's plan to expand its clinical trial planning work with Claude in 2027 holds up.
