Cursor's agents can now click and type in any app on your computer, not just your code and the browser.

Cursor's desktop agents can click and type across any app on your computer, and Cursor uses the feature when a task needs it.

On Friday, Oct 23, Cursor announced Computer Use for its desktop editor: "Cursor can now control your computer" (Cursor on X).

The idea is that an agent can test what it just built by using it, the way you would. Cursor's example is an agent driving the iOS Simulator, the tool Apple developers use to run iPhone apps on a Mac. Cursor says agents can "click and type across any app on your computer, not just the browser," and that Cursor will use the feature on its own when a task needs it (Cursor on X).

You can also ask for it directly by @-mentioning Computer Use in your prompt. To get it, update Cursor. Cursor hasn't yet published which plans or operating systems the new desktop feature supports. Its existing docs for self-hosted cloud agents already describe computer use on macOS and Linux, where on a Mac you have to grant Accessibility and Screen Recording permissions (Cursor docs).

What to weigh: letting an agent test its own work in a real app can save you a lot of clicking, but it also means the agent can act on anything open on your screen. Close apps and accounts you don't want it touching before you try it, and watch the first few runs.
