On October 15, Mercury's release note says you can ask ChatGPT or Claude to move money, pay a recipient, or categorize transactions on a Mercury account, and that nothing moves until you approve it ([Mercury releases](https://mercury.com/releases?category=API)). The [MCP docs](https://docs.mercury.com/docs/what-is-mercury-mcp) call the server a beta. It connects through OAuth. Payment and transfer requests do not send until you approve them in Mercury. Category and note edits apply immediately if those scopes were granted.

[Supported tools](https://docs.mercury.com/docs/supported-tools-on-mercury-mcp) lists five write tools. `requestSendMoney` and `requestTransferMoney` create a request that still needs approval in Mercury. `createCategory`, `editCategory`, and `updateTransaction` apply immediately. A connection that was read-only has to be reauthorized before those write scopes exist. Existing connections do not gain write access on their own.

## What it costs

The release note and the docs list no separate fee for the MCP.

## Should you switch

Connect it if you already approve payments in Mercury and want ChatGPT or Claude to draft the request. Leave it off if you do not want a model holding write scopes, even with the in-app approval step. Reconnect an older read-only link or the write tools stay unavailable.
