OpenAI's deprecations page, dated Oct 14, lists for removal on Jan 14, 2027: gpt-4o-2024-08-06, gpt-4o-2024-11-20, gpt-4o-mini-2024-07-18, gpt-4.1-2025-04-14, gpt-4.1-mini-2025-04-14. Fine-tunes of them go the same date; OpenAI names gpt-6-luna as replacement for all. About three months' notice, while the same page says GA models get "at least 6 months" unless safety or compliance requires faster. On X a #Keep4o petition and open letter circulate and developers point at the gap.
What it costs
GPT-6 Luna lists $0.10/M input, $0.50/M output.
Should you switch
If anything calls these snapshots, start testing Luna now rather than in January; prompts tuned for 4o's tone may need rework.
